In 2018, MSF launched a pilot project to prevent waterborne diseases by rehabilitating and drilling wells in Zimbabwe. The results were very successful. Zimbabwe experienced extreme outbreaks of cholera and typhoid affecting 10,000 people. MSF created a long-term solution by rehabilitating 50 water wells and train participants to drill water holes. This approach resulted in a drop from 10,000 cholera cases to just 2 in 5 months. Pollet Water Group, and by extension Pollet Group, wants to help MSF scale up this project to new countries. Because of our key role in the provision of drinking water to sustainably control or prevent disease transmission, Pollet Water Group joins forces and becomes a philanthropic partner of Médecins Sans Frontières. Pallas PFAS Filter Cartridge Single Point of Use Domestic Water Filtration Is the tap water in our European countries safe? Definitely! The European Drinking Water Directive provides clear guidelines and monitors the quality of our drinking water. Yet we see the demand for Point-of-Use (POU) solutions increasing. Events like Corona, PFAS pollution, microplastics in our waters... ensure that the population is more aware of how they use their drinking water. A good evolution that keeps us all on our toes. Perfecting water! As Pollet Water Group, together with our customers and partners, we are in the front row when it comes to detecting trends, new technologies and the continuous improvement of water treatment. It all comes to perfecting water! As an example, we saw an increase in demand for single-point-of-use cartridge filters within the domestic segment. PFAS contamination dominated the Belgian news for months, but is known across the continent. The production and use of PFAS in products has resulted in the contamination of drinking water supplies in several European countries. Do not be mistaken: it remains healthy to drink tap water. There are very low levels of PFAS in tap water and it can be filtered out. But the specific cartridges further reduce that concentration of PFAS. What is PFAS? PFAS is the collective name for more than 4700 chemical substances that include a combination of fluorine compounds and alkyl groups. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances are resistant to high temperatures and are water, dirt and grease repellent. They are therefore widely used in industrial applications and consumer products. The new European Drinking Water Directive (EU 2020/2184) includes PFAS as a 'new' drinking water parameter. The European standard for the 20 most relevant individual PFAS-20 is 100 nanograms per litre (ng/l). The water companies continue the measurement efforts in a targeted manner and map out the options for reducing the concentrations or at least not allowing them to increase. Pallas Domestic PFAS-filter. Let’s Make Water Count
The possibility of having an extra filter for PFAS at the domestic level, opens opportunities. It fits in our philosophy to ‘make water count’ while caring for the health of all citizens and encouraging innovation for safer chemicals! Interested to find out more? Hydrogen is the element of the future in a crucial role for the green energy transition. As an energy carrier hydrogen can store energy excesses from offshore wind parks. Making hydrogen production feasible at sea is a key innovation in this. The INTENSSE-H2 project will study the feasibility of an innovative concept where water desalination AND hydrogen production through electrolysis will be integrated in a 1-step solution. This one year project officially started November 1th 2021.
In stead of treating seawater with UF and RO to purify it the electrolyte in the process can be used as a draw solution to desalinate the sea water through a specific type of membrane.
Before developing the proof of concept which can induce the industrialisation of the concept the project team will investigate the feasibility of the concept. The central challenges are:
